An analog needle, on purpose.

Tone maps ±50 cents onto a ±50° sweep — one cent is about one degree. The needle pivots from the bottom of the meter and stands upright at zero, so being in tune isn't a number you read. It's an angle you recognise from across the room. In silence, the needle rests at centre, dimmed.

One accent, earned.

The whole interface is monochrome until the pitch is in tune. At that instant a single emerald signal lights the note, the centre tick, and the needle — and in the dark, it glows. Because nothing else ever uses that colour, the moment lands without a sound.

The case doesn't change colour.

Light mode and dark mode restyle software. Instruments keep their physical colour. The graphite faceplate stays graphite in both appearances — only the signal adapts, raised slightly in luminance at night so it reads as emitting light rather than reflecting it.

The tick marks are etched into the meter face — bevels and inner shadow — rather than drawn on top of it. This page is built the same way.

A success tap confirms the lock through your hands, so your eyes can stay on the fretboard, the bow, the reed — the thing you're actually tuning.

One element speaks.

The entire reading is a single labelled element: “A sharp, octave 4 — 42 cents flat.” The needle carries no information of its own, so VoiceOver never mentions it. With Reduce Transparency, the glow is suppressed but the colour change stays — state never lives in an effect alone. With Reduce Motion, the needle snaps instead of springing.
